Recreational Land Use Policy
For the purpose of this policy, recreational land use refers to the general public’s use of our timberlands for leisurely activities. It is the policy of Wausau Paper to offer recreational opportunities to the public within compliance of a recreational land use policy. Recreational land use includes but is not limited to the following uses:
- Firewood Cutting: The cutting of firewood on Company lands is allowed by permit. Firewood permits are limited to the permittee’s own person use. There is a nominal charge for firewood permits subject to the conditions stated on the permit.
- Hunting/Fishing: All Forest Crop Law lands are open for hunting and fishing by statute. Under the Managed Forest Law, lands that are MFL “open” are designated as open for hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, hiking and sightseeing.
- Snowmobiles and All Terrain Vehicles: The use of ATVs, motorized bikes, and other similar motorized vehicles is prohibited upon these lands. The use of snowmobiles is permitted only is used on a designated trail that is open for such use and if the ground has sufficient snow cover to provide a groomed snowmobile trail.
- Deer Stands: It is illegal to build or use a ground blind or any elevated device on these lands unless it does not damage the tree and it is completely removed from the property each day at the close of hunting hours. The daily removal requirement does not apply to ground blinds constructed entirely of dead vegetation found on the property. Cutting or brushing of shooting lanes, unauthorized pruning, and use of screw-in tree stands or steps, lag bolts, nails and similar fasteners is considered damaging to trees and is illegal.
- Overnight Camping: Overnight camping is not allowed on Company lands.
- Permanent Structures: Permanent structures such as shacks or cabins are not allowed on Company lands.
- Day-Use Activities Allowed: It is permissible to picnic, swim, and pick berries on Company lands.
- Campfires: Campfires are not allowed on Company lands.
